Delays and cancelations have become a regular part of air travel in 2022. Despite records for delays and cancellations being set across Europe, Italy has maintained relatively low levels of flight disruptions. Disruptions in other countries have caused most of the disturbances in Italy. One of the reasons that Italy is faring so well amid the summer chaos is because of something known as the franchigia estiva, which means summer exemption. This bans all strikes between July 27th and September 5th. The industry has also not been affected similarly by staff shortages.
