Here’s a simple explainer of the beginnings of the People’s Republic of China’s (PRC’s) three big airlines – Air China, China Eastern, and China Southern. All three of these airlines were born from the breaking up of the monopoly of the People’s Aviation Company of China as a subsidiary of the Civil Aviation Administration of China. The People’s Aviation Company of China was better known as CAAC Airlines and was broken up into PRC regions.
