This is the story of how David E. Harris became the first African American pilot to fly for a significant United States commercial airline. Born in Columbus, Ohio, on December 22, 1934, Harris attended a private school before going to Ohio State University. While studying at college, he was rejected twice from joining the school's Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) because of his race.
