Hurricane Ian is now a Category 3 Hurricane. It is currently centered over the western tip of Cuba. It will slowly grow stroner and head towards Florida and later Georgia.
The forecast track has shifted a bit more to the east.
Airports on the west coast of Florida will be closing as high winds and heavy rains approach the area. Separately we are keeping track of the status of all major commercial airports in Florida.
St. Petersburg/Clearwater International (PIE) has already announced it will close at 1 pm today.
Tampa International Airport (TPA) will suspend operations today at 1700 (5 pm).
Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) is expected to close today.
