On September 6, 1952, 70 years ago today, a prototype de Havilland DH.110 jet fighter being unveiled to the public at the Farnborough Airshow in Hampshire, England, disintegrated midair while performing an aerobatic maneuver. The plane's pilot John Derry and an onboard observer Anthony Richards were killed, along with 29 spectators on the ground.
