70 Years Ago Today: De Havilland’s Experimental Jet Fighter Disintegrated At Farnborough Airshow

On September 6, 1952, 70 years ago today, a prototype de Havilland DH.110 jet fighter being unveiled to the public at the Farnborough Airshow in Hampshire, England, disintegrated midair while performing an aerobatic maneuver. The plane's pilot John Derry and an onboard observer Anthony Richards were killed, along with 29 spectators on the ground. Read

More Disruption? Lufthansa Pilots Plan 48-Hour Follow Up Strike Tomorrow

Just days after Lufthansa pilots last went on strike, the Vereinigung Cockpit union representing the group has revealed further strike action. The airline's pilots will hold a 48-hour strike tomorrow, while Lufthansa Cargo pilots will strike for 72 hours. The union says that only a serious offer from the airline can avert the planned strikes.
